Great!

Use it for non-work projects, it will help you get a feel for it. I've used it to work on personal projects (creating plans and whatnot) and it's a fantastic way to get comfortable with it.

We are solving design problems. The benefits of cad is that its a universal language that all designers know, and it's a great base point to grow from.

Pros

Easy to use and very compatible with other programs (like Sketchup and Revit). Great for quick analytical plans, and very intuitive to use.

Cons

I'm not a huge fan of using Autocad in 3d - I prefer to use it in 2d for planning. I do love that it has a 3d feature - it makes exporting and importing into various other programs very easy, but the 3d aspect itself is not something I utilize, just because I find it easier to use in other programs.

Students and Professional Friendly

if you want to use the full capacity of this software buy it it woth it, it offers free trials and student trials but when the time is done you can not longer use it

normally when my boss ask me for a design he gives me no more than a week to do it so its very important to me that this sofware its easy to use and you just develope your ideas in a few hours

Pros

The software always been easy to use, i usually use the comands shortcuts but if i dont remember one of them its easy to find the icon and if you are no sure if its the one you are looking for you jus hover the pointer over it and gives you a quick description of it.

Cons

sometimes when you are working on a big project and use to many layers or hatches it gets slow

Best Tools for Architects

AutoCAD was our firm's first computer drafting program. Before, everything was hand-drafted and took an immense amount of time and effort to produce drawings and make inevitable changes. AutoCAD helped drastically change that.

Pros

I love the shortcuts that are available, makes it very easy to execute multiple actions in a row quickly. It is also free to students, so it's convenient to those of us that can't afford to pay for the program entirely from scratch. It provides a more technical aspect to designs rather than just having sketches or drawings by hand. This program makes it much more professional looking and neat. Also the shortcut of esc is great to use whenever you want to exit out of an existing command.

Cons

It is not easy to draw whole buildings compared to 3D programs. If you change one thing, you have to change it in everything you have drawn. Line weights don't work when you send it to someone with a different system.
